Google has announced that its game streaming service Stadia will shut down on January 18, 2023. The company will refund all hardware and software purchases to users. The refunds will be done by mid-January 2023.
The company revealed that it didn’t get the traction with users that it expected. So, they made this difficult decision.
“We’re grateful to the dedicated Stadia players that have been with us from the start. We will be refunding all Stadia hardware purchases made through the Google Store, and all game and add-on content purchases made through the Stadia Store,” said Google.
The company will now use Stadia’s technology to power other Google services such as YouTube, Google Play, and its AR efforts.
Google Stadia was launched back in March 2019. When game releases slowed down last year, we heard rumors about Stadia shutting down. But Google refuted reports and confirmed that it is committed to Stadia.
