Last year, European Commission (EC) proposed a rule that requires all s smartphones and other small electronic devices to have USB-C charging. On Tuesday, EU countries and lawmakers agreed on this proposal. The next step will be to approve the agreement. Once it is approved, all small electronic devices including smartphones, earbuds, headphones, video game consoles, and others come with a USB Type-C port for charging.
EU’s agreement will apply from autumn 2024 for all smartphones. Most Android devices now already come with USB-C charging. Only Apple will have to replace the lightning port. So, we can expect iPhones with a USB-C port by 2024.
The EU said that the new rule will reduce the hassle for consumers and will reduce electronic waste. Consumers can also their old charters for new devices. EU Consumers will have a common charger for most of their electronic devices.
Recently a report confirmed that Apple has already been testing iPhone with a USB-C port charging. Now the company may plan a separate USB-C iPhone for the EU but it will increase manufacturing costs for the company. So, next year’s iPhone should come with a USB-C port.
