Apple unveiled the M2 chip

At WWDC 2022, Apple also announced its new M2 chipset, the successor to the M1. The M2 chipset is built on a second-generation 5nm process and has 20 billion transistors. It promises 18% better CPU performance and 35 percent faster GPU performance than Apple’s M1.

Apple’s M2 chip packs faster performance cores and these performance cores are paired with a larger cache. It improved performance and efficiency both. Apple claims that the M2 chip provides nearly twice the performance as in Samsung Galaxy Book2 360 powered by Intel Core i7-1255U.

The GPU seems the same as in M1 but is slightly more efficient. It has 10 core GPU that can deliver 25% better performance than the 8-core GPU in the Apple M1 chip. Apple also claims that the GPU in M2 offers a 35% better performance delta as compared to integrated graphics in Galaxy Book2 360.

M2 also has 16-core neural engine that is 40% faster than in M1. It can process up to 15.8 trillion operations per second. The chip also has 50% more memory bandwidth and supports up to 24GB of LPDDR5 RAM.

The M2 chip has an updated media engine that supports 8K H.264 and HEVC video. So, the devices powered by Apple’s M2 chipset will be able to play multiple 4K and 8K videos simultaneously.

Apple’s upcoming MacBook Air is the first Apple device to get Apple’s M2 chum. The new MacBook Apr has a thinner profile and MagSafe charging. It has a bigger 13.6-inch display, an improved camera, and more. I will talk about this new MacBook Air in a different article.
