YouTube Team has announced that they are shutting down the lightweight version of YouTube called YouTube Go. The app will no longer be available starting in August.

YouTube Go was developed to offer a smooth YouTube experience on low-end devices. The app was also designed to consume fewer data. The app was initially launched back in 2016 and saw several improvements over the years.

The app lacks several features that are available in YouTube’s main app. Some of the features users miss are the ability to comment, post, create content, and dark theme. So, YouTube now recommends users to install YouTube app.

Now when budget Android phones have become more powerful, these phones can run the main YouTube app. So, most users prefer using the YouTube app in place of YouTube Go for a better YouTube experience.

Google initially launched YouTube Go in India and Indonesia. Later, it also released the app in over 130 countries. The app currently has over 500 million installs and was last updated in October 2021.
