RBI launches UPI123Pay for feature phones

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched a new service UPI123pay to bring UPI payments to feature phones. For using UPI123pay, you don’t need a smartphone or an active internet connection for making payments. The aim of this service is to bring digital payments to underprivileged citizens who could not access the UPI system due to the lack of internet access.

As per an estimate, there are more than 40 crore Indians using feature phones. So, they cannot use digital payment methods. With 123PAY, they can access UPI and make digital payments easily.

How does UPI123pay work?

UPI123PAY has a three-step process: Call, choose and pay. Before you can use the 123PAY service, you need to link your bank account and phone number. Then you are required to set a UPI PIN.

Once you have linked your bank account with the phone and set a UPI PIN. you need to dial the IVR number ‘080 4516 3666’. It asks to choose from a variety of UPI-related payment services including money transfer, LPG gas refill, FastTag recharge, mobile recharge, EMI repayment, and balance check.

To transfer the money, select the phone number, enter the amount and UPI PIN.

RBI has also setup a 24×7 helpline for digital payments. This helpline is called ‘Digisaathi’ and it will assist the callers with all their queries on digital payments via website and chatbot. To access the helpline, visit www.digisaathi.info or call on 14431 and 1800 891 3333 from their phones.
