We already know that Google has been working to bring Steam to Chrome OS for some time. We still don’t know when Steam will be released for Chrome OS, but we have a list of Chromebooks that will support Steam at launch.

In a code change posted over at Chromium Gerrit, Google has confirmed the initial list of Chromebooks that will support Steam when it will be launched for Chrome OS. Here is the list of 6 models of Chromebooks.

  • Volta – Acer Chromebook 514 (CB514-1H)
  • Volet – Acer Chromebook 515
  • Voxel – Acer Chromebook Spin 713 (CP713-3W)
  • Delbin – ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5500)
  • Drobit – ASUS Chromebook CX9 (CX9400)
  • Elemi – HP Pro c640 G2 Chromebook
  • Lindar – Unknown/unreleased Chromebook from Lenovo

There is a minimum system requirement to support Steam on Chrome OS. The system must have an 11th Gen Core i5 or i7 processor along with at least 7GB of RAM. So, entry-level Chromebooks won’t support Steam.

This list could also add more devices in the coming days before Steam actually launches for Chrome OS. We have also heard about RGB Chromebooks. Steam is just around the corner. It seems Google is serious about making Chrome OS are trusted gaming platform.
