WhatsApp has finally jumped into direct competition against Paytm, Google Pay, and PhonePe like UPI payment providers. Now you can pay to different merchants and vendors through your bank account linked to WhatsApp just by scanning the QR codes at different shops. No need to have the number in your contact for sending payment.

WhatsApp already supports UPI payments to your contacts, but the QR code scanning for payment feature was missing. Now the company is finally introducing it. WABetaInfo posted a video on Twitter showing how this QR scanning for payment will work.

This is the extension of its existing WhatsApp payment based on UPI. For using payments on WhatsApp, you need to link your bank account that has the same registered number that you are using for WhatsApp. Then you can send payments to your contacts who are using WhatsApp pay.

Not just vendors, you can also use QR code scanning payment method to send money to individuals.
