Mediatek has today officially announced its flagship Kompanio SoC built using TSMC’s 6nm process. This SoC has four high-performance cores and four power-efficiency-focused cores. This SoC was first confirmed when Acer introduced its new Chromebook Spin 513 powered by MediaTek Kompanio 1380 processor at CES earlier this month.
Mediatek Kompanio 1380 features an octa-core CPU with four ARM Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at 3GHz and four ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency cores clocked at 2GHz. There is also ARM Mali-G57 GPU for graphics. It also includes MediaTek’s APU 3.0 multi-core AI processor with 4 TOPS performance.
The SoC supports quad-channel 2,133MHz LPDDR4x memory. It also supports eMMC, uFS, and NVMe storage.
Kompanio 1380 supports up to two 4K displays at a 60Hz refresh rate or one 4K 60Hz display and two 4K 30Hz displays. It also features AV1 hardware decoding and a dedicated audio digital signal processor (DSP) for ultra-low power voice on wakeup (VoW) capabilities.
In connectivity, the SoC supports Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E, along with Bluetooth 5.0.
Acer Chromebook Spin 513 has already been announced and it is the first Chromebook to feature the SoC. This Chromebook will go on sale in June. Other brands should also follow.
