Intel unveils 12th Gen Alder Lake laptop chips at CES 2022

Intel has announced its latest 12th Gen Alder Lake laptop CPUs at its press conference at CES 2022. The flagship Core i9-12900HK is also claimed to be the “fastest mobile processor ever created” and “the world’s best mobile gaming platform”.

Then new Core i9-12900HK processor features 6 Performance cores, 8 Efficiency cores, and a total of 20 threads. This CPU has a base power rating of 45W that can go up to 115W. There is also a 24MB of L3 cache. The Core i9-12900HK offers up to 28 percent faster gaming over its predecessor, the Core i9-11980HK. There is also a big jump in productivity tasks.

The Alder Lake CPUs use ‘Golden Cove’ architecture for P-cores and ‘Gracemont’ for E-cores. Chips are manufactured using a 10nm process. The company has developed a new scheduler called Thread Director to optimize workloads.

There are also other less powerful i7 and i5 models.

These CPUs support DDR5 RAM at up to 4800MT/s or LPDDR5 with some SKUs, Wi-Fi 6e, USB 3.2 Gen2x2, Thunderbolt 4, AI acceleration, and AV1 media decode.
