Xiaomi has introduced a new Loop LiquidCool Technology to offer improved cooling in smartphones. This technology boasts to offer twice the cooling capabilities compared to conventional vapor chambers. The technology works based on the capillary effect. Xiaomi claims that the tech is inspired by cooling solutions used in the aerospace industry.

Loop LiquidCool Technology has an annular heat pipe system that includes an evaporator, a condenser, a refill chamber, gas, and liquid pipes. When there is a workload on the processor, the evaporator’s refrigerant evaporates to gas. The gas and airflow then diffuse to the condenser where the gas further condenses into liquid. The liquid is absorbed and collected through small fibers in the refill chamber.

This technology also uses the same method as VC liquid cooling, but the ring-shaped pump features a special gas pipe design. It reduces air passage resistance by 30% for a smoother steam flow and increases the maximum heat transfer capacity by up to 100%.

Xiaomi also demonstrated this technology on a custom Xiaomi MIX 4 that originally used a vapor chamber. A 30-minute Genshin Impact gameplay test running 60fps at max video settings couldn’t exceed 47.7 degrees Celsius and the processor was 8.6 degrees Celsius lower than the standard version of the phone.

Xiaomi plans to bring this smartphone processor cooling technology into smartphones by the second half of 2022.
