Instagram has started a video selfie verification system for users. This step seems to be taken to avoid fake profiles and spam accounts on the platform.

Last night, I was asked to verify the identity by providing a short selfie video clip. It asks me to move face left, right, and up multiple times before submitting the final clip.

The company will then match your provided clip with your photos to verify your identity.

Instagram’s parent company Meta has confirmed that the facial data won’t be collected and used. The platform will automatically delete the provided video clip from the server in 30 days.

Some reports claim that the new video selfie verification system is only for new accounts. I don’t think this is the case. I am using Instagram for years and the app asked me for a video selfie.
