Last year, Olympus confirmed it was getting out of the camera business. Today, the company has surprised us by announcing a new brand identity. The parent company OM Digital is rebranding Olympus as OM System.
Products that are already in the market will keep carrying the Olympus branding. So, both the names will co-exist for while. With time, the old name will be phased out as the company launches new models.
Along with cameras and lenses, OM System also plans to introduce other categories such as audio products, binoculars, and others. The company currently sells Micro Four Thirds-based interchangeable lens cameras.
Earlier this year, Olympus finalized the sale of the imaging division to Japan Industrial Partners (JIP). JIP made OM Digital Solutions as a separate company to look for Olympus cameras.
