Popular fantasy cricket platform Dream11 has suspended its operations in Karnataka to comply with the state’s online gambling law. So, no one from Karnataka can enter paid contests on its platform. They can keep enjoying free-to-play practice contests.
If a user from Karnataka tries to join a paid contest, the app shows an error message stating that users who currently reside or have a bank account within the state cannot participate in cash contests on Dream11.
The move came after the FIR was filed against Dream11 cofounders Harsh Jain and Bhavit Sheth for continued operations of its platform in the state even after the online gambling law came into effect. This law has online games involving betting and wagering. The case has been registered under sections 79 and 80 of the Karnataka Police Act.
The company also notes that users can withdraw their winnings by verifying their account and placing a withdrawal request by October 23, 2021.
A Dream11 spokesperson confirmed that the company examining its legal remedies. He also added that the company respects laws and will extend full cooperation to any authorities.
