YouTube is testing video downloads on computers

YouTube

There are several ways to download YouTube videos. For desktops, there are software and many online tools. In case you do not want to use any software or online tool, you can use screen recording to record the videos. So, YouTube is now testing a way to let users download videos and watch them later even without having an internet connection.

Android Police reports that the feature is still being tested with premium users in India and France.

After visiting youtube.com/new, I found the mention of the video download feature. The description confirms that the download feature will work on the latest version of Chrome, Edge, and Opera browsers.

There will be a download button just below the video player. All your download videos will be arranged on a separate page youtube.com/feed/downloads that you can visit anytime to play downloaded content. You can choose to download a video from 144p to 1080p resolutions. For now, there’s no option to download video at 4K.

YouTube has been offering download options on mobile apps for a long time. So, it will be a good decision to offer the same on desktop. Several people download videos from YouTube to watch offline. Having an official download option will save them from using third-party tools that could be malicious.
