Qualcomm has finally managed a way to deliver lossless audio over Bluetooth. The company has announced aptX Lossless, a next-gen proprietary audio format for improved audio streaming over Bluetooth.
The company claims that AptX Lossless can deliver 16bit/44.1kHz with bit rate scalability between 1Mb/s – 140Kbit/s. That’s CD-quality. There will be no data loss when an audio file is encoded and decoded with aptX Lossless.
Qualcomm also says that lossless audio mode will be enabled automatically when aptX Adaptive gets a lossless source file.
It is also worth noting that aptX Lossless isn’t a new Bluetooth codec but a part of aptX Adaptive codec. The company has optimised a number of wireless connectivity and audio technologies rio achieve the lossless audio quality streaming.
You will need devices that support full aptX Lossless experience to stream lossless music. That means both your phone and headphone should support it.
Qualcomm says that devices with aptX Lossless support are expected to be available in the market by early 2022.
