We were waiting for Jio’s upcoming budget smartphone that was rumored to be official on September 10. Today is the day but the company has delayed the launch of this budget smartphone due to the global chip shortage issue.

Jio Platforms has issued a statement confirming the delay in the launch. Now the phone will be launched in early November around the Diwali festival. The company has already been tasing the smartphone with a “limited set of users for further refinement” and is committed to making it available widely.

JioPhone Next smartphone was confirmed back in June this year. Jio Platforms is working with search giant Google to offer a low-cost budget smartphone. Google is basically taking care of the software part. Google is working in a customized version of Android for this low-cost phone.

JioPhone Next is marketed as an ultra-affordable 4G smartphone for India. This phone aims at customers who are still using the featured phone. The phone primacies good camera, latest Android releases, and security updates. The phone will have features like Google Assistant, automatic read-aloud and language translation for any on-screen text, a smart camera with India-centric filters, and much more.

Google had invested $4.5 billion in Jio Platforms and confirmed its interest in India’s smartphone and internet market. Now the company is working with Jio on affordable smartphones. After this ultra-low-cost 4G phone, both companies also have their plans to launch an affordable 5G phone.
