Facebook on Tuesday announced two new Portal video-calling devices: Portal Go and updated Portal Plus. Portal Go and Portal Plus are priced at $199 and $349, respectively.
Portal Go has a 10-inch display and has portable form factor. Portal Plus gets a sleeker design and features a 14-inch display. The devices run an Android-based interface.
Portal Go is the first battery-powered portal device. It promises 5 hours of standard usage and up to 14 hours of music playback with the screen off.
Both the devices primarily focus on video calling. Apart from Messenger and WhatsApp, these devices now support several other video calling apps such as Zoom, Cisco’s Webex, BlueJeans, and GoToMeeting. Portal will also add support for Microsoft Teams by December.
Portal Go has a wide-angle camera that also follows the person in focus by zooming and panning as they move in and out. Portal Plus is similar to its predecessor but the company removed the swivel display. Both the devices also feature a physical shutter to cover the camera.
Both devices are available for preorder today and shipping will start soon October 19.
