Amazon launches an interactive video calling device ‘Glow’

Amazon has launched a new interactive video calling device called ‘Amazon Glow.’ The device lets kids to interact with their family members and other loved ones living far away over video calls.

Unlike other video calling devices such as Facebook’s Portal, Amazon Flow provides an interactive space that makes room for virtual activities such as games, art, and puzzles.

Glow features an 8-inch display that stands up vertically. The device can also create a 19-inch touch-sensitive space in front of the display for playing virtual games and engaging in other activities with the person on the video calls. The person on the call can also participate on their own device.

The interactive games take place on a special mat, which is also included with the device.

Amazon Glow offers several games to play together, thousands of children’s books to read together, and drawing using digital pencils, crayons, brushes, or spray paint.

The device can also combine physical objects and digital play. It can scan an object and then turn it into a custom jigsaw puzzle by projecting it into the surface in front of the device. It can also scan a drawing they made on paper and convert it into new artwork.

Amazon Glow will also be used by kids. So, parents or guardians will have to first configure the device by providing contacts kinds can call and limit the device only to family members or trusted family friends. Parents can also disable the camera and microphone using a physical privacy shutter on the device.

The device doesn’t come with Alexa. So, it doesn’t record video or voice. It also doesn’t track or save location data.

Amazon Glow is priced at $299.99, but is launching at a discounted price of $249.99.
