Blizzard Entertainment is working to bring cross-platform support for Overwatch on PC and consoles. The company is releasing the cross-play beta soon.
Until now, gamers on different platforms were segmented. Now gamers from different platforms can face off each other. The cross-play will work on all modes, except for the Competitive mode on PC. The reason for excluding PC players in competitive mode is that they have an advantage against console players because of the mouse and keyboard.
Players from different regions are also being merged into a global list. So, you no longer need to switch Battle.net regions to play with friends living on another continent. Only players from China will remain separated from other regions.
Another notable thing is that Console players can opt out of cross-play at any time but PC players can’t.
The game is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. You also need to make a Battle.net account for enjoying cross-play beta. Before this update, Console players can skip having Battle.net account. They will have to link their console account to Battle.net from account settings.
