Instagram is introducing Ads to Reels

Reels Ads

Instagram’s short-form video section is getting advertisements. After testing it in selected markets, the company is now expanding Reels ads globally. Instagram Reels ads will be vertical, full-screen ad breaks, and can be up to 30 seconds long.

Users will be able to like, share or save ads just like they do for regular Reels videos. These adverts will also have the option to skip if the video is long. Brands can also add a shop button if they want to redirect customers to their online shop.

Instagram confirms that ads will appear in most places where users see Reels including Reels in Explore, Reels in your feed, Reels in dedicated Reels tab, and Reels in Stories. Reels ads will appear between individual Reels but only if Reels are being viewed in full-screen Reels viewer.

Instagram Reels is a short video platform just like TikTok. It lets you record and edit 30-second multi-clip videos with audio and effects. Users get more engagement in Reels, so they also like to create more Reels. The company has also moved multi to a dedicated tag on the main screen to help users find reels easily.

Advertising is Instagram’s primary source of earning. So, the move was expected. Now when most users are comfortable with Reels and are actively using it, perhaps this is the right time to introduce ads.

Instagram has more than a billion monthly active users globally. So, the app is a big platform for advertisers. The app has the ability to drive traffic and boost sales. Creators are also actively creating content on Instagram and helping brands in getting a better reach.
