Spotify finally gets the ability to download music on Apple Watch. So, you can now download tracks on the Spotify app on Apple Watch and play without needing your iPhone nearby.

Spotify app lets you download songs and podcasts both. You can tap on the three-dots button on a song or podcast on the Spotify app on Apple Watch and then choose “Download to Apple Watch.” Downloaded tracks will also show a green arrow near their names.

You need to have enough storage on your Apple Watch for downloads. Series 5, 6, and SE all offer 32GB of storage making them a good one for offline music downloads. Series 4 and Series 3 don’t offer much storage to download large playlists. The feature is available with Apple Watch running at least watchOS 6 but the company recommends watchOS 7.1. You’ll also need a subscription to Spotify Premium.

We have been hearing about this feature for a long time. Spotify users were asking for offline download and offline playback for quite some time. This update puts Spotify in direct competition against Apple Music and Pandora that already offer offline music playback.
