Google introduces Google News Showcase India

Google has announced the launch of a new initiative ‘Google News Showcase’ in India. This initiative aims to provide authentic news information while supporting and incentivising news publishers in the country.

Publishers who are part of Google News Showcase will be able to curate high-quality news content and display them on the Google News app. It will make a better connection between readers and their organization. The news content will be available on both Google’s News and Discover platforms.

Google will also pay to these participating news organizations for offering access to a limited amount of paywalled content. This will also help news publication in increasing their subscribers.

At the launch, Google News Showcase has 30 news publishers including national, regional and local news organizations. The content is available in English and Hindi languages. Google is planning to bring support for more Indian languages soon.

Google News Showcase is already. Available in several other countries including the UK, Italy, Australia, Argentina and Czechia.

Google has also confirmed that it is expanding Google News Initiative efforts in India. Under this program, it will work to strengthen digital skills in newsrooms and journalism schools across India. It aims to 50,000 journalists and journalism students in next 3 years.
