If you switch from Android to iOS or iOS to Android, you cannot transfer WhatsApp chat history. If you are someone who has some really important chats and cannot afford to lose, you will have to use the available paid tools that help in transferring your chats from one platform to another. These chats can read all your chats, so there is a privacy risk involved in this.

So, users were requesting for a cross-platform chat option from the company. It seems the compass is also now working on the same. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is now working to add a cross-platform chat migration option. The feature has not yet available in beta, so we cannot say when it will be available.

Even if there are several tools that help you in transferring chats, the company doesn’t recommend using them. WhatsApp claims that any app that can move your chat history between phones violate their terms of service.

The reason why this feature took too long is the difference in data formats, WhatsApp for Android takes backup in Google Drive while WhatsApp for iOS saves a backup in iCloud. Obviously, it wasn’t impossible because third-party paid tools were offering this service for a long time. Now when the company is officially bringing this feature, users won’t have to pay for chat migration.
