Sony invests $200 million in Epic Games

Epic Games has just raised $1 billion in funding led by Sony. Sony invested $200 million in the funding round that has put Epic Games at $28.7 billion. There are a dozen non-gaming companies that took part in this funding round. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney still holds the controlling stakes.

Epic Games will use this funding to develop and support Unreal Engine, Epic Games Store and Epic Online Services.

“We are grateful to our new and existing investors who support our vision for Epic and the Metaverse. Their investment will help accelerate our work around building connected social experiences in Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys, while empowering game developers and creators with Unreal Engine, Epic Online Services, and the Epic Games Store,” said Tim Sweeney CEO of Epic Games.

Sony first invested $250 million in Epic games last year and acquired a 1.4 percent stake. Now with another $200 mullion, Sony has invested a total of $450 million in Epic Games to date.
