As expected, Apple has today announced the new iMac lineup for 2021 with its in-house M1 chipset. Apple has also improved the design. So, the new iMac is thinner and is offered in 7 different colors including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver.

The new iMac comes with a 24-inch 4.5K display that boasted 500 nits of maximum brightness and anti-reflective coating. The display has Apple’s True Tone tech for automatically adjusting the color temperature. It has narrower borders around the top and sides. The rear is now flat instead of curved in the previous iMac. Appel claims that the volume of new iMac has been reduced by over 50 percent.

It comes with Apple’s ARM-based M1 chip with CPU cores CPU and 7 or 8 Cores GPU depending on the configuration you pick. The M1 chipset makes CPU performance up to 85% faster and GPU performance up to 50% better as compared to the fastest old 21.5-inch iMac. Apple also promises 3x faster machine learning. The base model comes with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. The high-end model packs 16GB of RAM and 2TB of storage.

The device packs six built-in speakers including two pairs of force-cancelling woofers. It supports spatial audio with Dolby Atmos. There is also a three-mic array and a 1080p webcam.

Apple is also offering a color-matched Magic Keyboard with Touch ID. So, it is also the world’s first wireless implementation of the biometric authentication system. There’s a dedicated security chip in the Keyboard that communicates directly with Secure Enclave in the M1 chip for offering to transfer fingerprint data.

There are two Thunderbolt ports and Wi-Fi 6. The most expensive model also has two additional USB-C ports and a 1Gbps Ethernet port.

The new iMac starts at Rs. 1,19,900 ($1,299 in the US) and will be up for pre-order on April 30. Shipping beings in the second half of May.
