Qualcomm just announced a new mobile platform in its existing 7-series portfolio. This new SoC is based on 5nm process technology and will power mid-range devices. Snapdragon 780G can be seen as the successor to Snapdragon 765G.
Snapdragon 780G comes with Kryo 670 CPU that promises to deliver up to 40 percent performance increase over its predecessor and includes Adreno 642 GPU. The company claims up to +50% GPU performance over Snapdragon 768G and up to +72% over 765G. It also supports a full-HD display with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz and features Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming integration.
Snapdragon 780G includes Adreno 642 GPU, Hexagon 770, and sixth-generation Qualcomm AI Engine. The ISP supports 10-bit color depth for photos and videos . It can also record in HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG formats.
The SoC also comes with a Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF System capable of offering up to 3.3Gbps of download speeds on sub-6 GHz frequencies. Qualcomm also includes FastConnect 6900 Wi-Fi chips which feature Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.
The first phones to be powered by the Snapdragon 780G will be out in the next three months.
