Today, Twitter announced a bunch of new features including Super Follows and Communities.

Super Follows feature is borrowed from Patreon that lets users charge followers a subscription fee to provide them exclusive content such as exclusive tweets, fleets, newsletters, and access to a dedicated community. This feature will help creators more money on Twitter. The Super Follow subscriptions will go for $4.99/month and followers can cancel it anytime they wish. Twitter will presumably take a cut from the subscription money.

Companies sich as Patreon and OnlyFans have successfully implemented this model where creators are earning big. Facebook, YouTube, and even GitHub have similar option where creator can charge followers for exclusive content. Twitter is also planning to introduce possible tipping option. The company is still exploring this model and will share more on this in coming months.

Communities feature is similar to Facebook Groups. Users can create or join communities on certain topics and post content to specific communities. Posting in communities will also expand their reach beyond their followers.

Twitter also announces a feature called “Safety Mode.” If it is enabled, the feature will automatically block and mute accounts that are abusing its rules. Twitter didn’t provide many details on this feature. So, I am waiting for details before guessing how this feature could work.
