Today, Cybersecurity firm Sophos announce that it has partnered with US chipmaker Qualcomm to bring its Intercept X endpoint protection software to Snapdragon Soc powered 5G PCs.

Sophos Intercept X is an endpoint detection and threat response software. It helps in preventing ransomware and other security threats. Sophos Intercept X will also use Qualcomm’s AI Engine for optimization to run faster and more power efficiently.

The version of Intercept X used in Snapdragon-based PCs will also be able to use connected standby. This is important because thousands of exploits are discovered every day. So there could be multiple updates in a single day. Always connected PC is required to receive updates at any time. We have Wi-Fi at home and offices but only a cellular-connected PC can guarantee always-connectivity.

“Snapdragon compute platforms mark a major step forward because they provide all the utility and performance of a PC, but with many of the benefits associated with modern mobile computing devices. Security loves predictability, and Sophos is excited to be a part of securing this next-generation computing platform.” Joe Levy, chief technology officer, Sophos.

“By working with Sophos, we are taking on-device security to a new level by enhancing their industry-leading endpoint protection with AI accelerated threat detection on our solutions,” commented Miguel Nunes, senior director of Product Management at Qualcomm.

Intercept X for Snapdragon platforms will be available by the end of 2021.
