Snapdragon 678

Qualcomm just announced Snapdragon 678, the company’s next generation Mobile Platform. This new Soc is the successor of Snapdragon 675 announced back in 2018. Snapdragon 678 promises to bring improved photography and connectivity.

Snapdragon 678 is built on an 11nm LLP process and similar to its predecessor but has overclocked Kryo 460 cores. Snapdragon 678 comes with 2 x Kryo 460 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and 6 x Kryo 460 efficiency cores clocked at 1.7GHz. It comes with the same Adreno 612 GPU though Qualcomm promises better graphics performance.

It supports full-HD+ (1,080×2,520 pixels) display and up to 4K UHD external display. The company has also included support for Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo Plus technology, Qualcomm Aqstic audio technology, and Qualcomm aptX.

The mobile platform also features Qualcomm Spectra 250L IPS that can handle dual-camera setups up to 16-megapixel and single cameras up to 48-megapixel. It can record 4K video at 30fps and 1080p videos at up to 120fps and 720p videos at up to 240fps.

Snapdragon 678 SoC packs Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 LTE modem that can deliver peak download and upload speeds of 600Mbps and 150Mbps. It supports dual-SIM Dual VoLTE. Other connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS, and SBAS. The SoC also supports USB 3.1 with USB Type-C interface. That means the Soc won’t support 5G, next-gen Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Now when mid-range devices are coming with 5G, Qualcomm still thinks that Snapdragon 678 will fit its portfolio. We have no information when the devices with Snapdragon 678 will hit the market.
