On Tuesday during the keynote at India Mobile Congress 2020, Mukesh Ambani revealed that Reliance Jio will roll out in India in the second half of 2021. He also stressed the need for policy steps to accelerate the 5G roll out and make it affordable for consumers.

“I assure you that Jio will pioneer the 5G revolution in India in the second half of 2021. It will be powered by the indigenous-developed network, hardware, and technology components,” he said.

Jio has been working on 5G for some time now. The company also partnered with Samsung and Qualcomm for chops to test the 5G network. As soon as the spectrum is available, the company will start testing the 5G network in the country.

The company claims that it has developed a complete 5G solution from scratch and it will be 100% homegrown technology and solution. 5G technology will bring faster data speeds, low latency communications and improved digital experiences across connected devices.

The telco had already confirmed its plans to launch affordable 4G and 5G smartphones in India to help most people get access to faster internet. The company has partnered with Google to launch affordable Android phones. It plans to manufacture over 200 million smartphones in the next 2 years.

When Jio is ready to roll out 5G network by next year, rivals such as Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea believe that the country isn’t ready for the 5G as it lacks the required ecosystem. Rivals also believe that 5G cannot be available in the country before two years.
