Tamil Nadu has introduced an ordinance to “ban online gaming” involving betting. This step has been taken after suicides by people who allegedly lost money in online games. Any violation of this ordinance would attract both fine and imprisonment, ranging up to two years.

Any person who found “gaming” will be pushed with Rs. 5000 find and six months imprisonment. People who operate common gaming houses will be punished with two years in jail and Rs. 10,000 fine.

The ordinance was passed by Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Friday after it received the proposal from the stemmata government.

It is worth noting that Neighbourhood state Andhra Pradesh had also recently banned online gaming. Union Territory Puducherry has also written to the Centre seeking a similar action on such activities after the recent suicide case.

Three people died of suicide in Coimbatore this month after suffering a heavy financial loss in the online rummy game.
