Spotify rolls out standalone streaming support to its Apple Watch app

Spotify Apple Watch app

Spotify has finally started rolling out support for standalone streaming on its Apple Watch app. So, you don’t need an iPhone for listing to the Spotify library on your Apple Watch.

This feature arrives around two years after Spotify brought a dedicated app for Apple Watch. You need Apple Watch Series 3 or later with watchOS 6.0+ to stream Spotify directly on your Apple Watch.

Users only need a Wi-Fi or cellular network on Apple Watch with Spotify app and listen to via Bluetooth headphones or speakers. So, you don’t need to carry your iPhone if you are going for a run or walk. Simply go with Apple Watch for listening to your Spotify Libraries.

This feature is a server-side update and the company has already enabled it for all users. However, offline listening is still not available.

Reports suggest that there is no search function on the Spotify app and users need to use Siri for the search.

Spotify is not the first Apple Watch app supporting standalone streaming. Apple’s own Apple Music service and Pandora support standalone playback on Apple Watch.
