Google has released an update to Gmail that lets users set the Gmail app as default email app on devices running iOS 14.

Apple released iOS 14 last week that brings the ability to change the default email app on iPhone and iPad running the latest version of iOS. Developers also need to support the feature. That’s why Google has to release an update to support it.

Once you install the latest Gmail update, open the Settings app on your iOS device, and tap the “Gmail” from options. In the Gmail section, you see a newly added “Default Mail App” menu. Gmail app will also prompt you to enable this option once you install the new update.

Gmail as the default email app

With iOS 14, Apple now lets users change the default mail app and browser to their preferred app. But this feature isn’t working as expected. Several users reported that it automatically switches third-party browser and email applications back to Apple’s default Mail and Safari after the restart. Apple has yet to acknowledge this bug, so we cannot say when it will be addressed.
