Google has introduced a captions for video and audio messages on Google Duo. Now it will show captions while watching or listing to audio messages at the bottom of the screen. The feature is applicable to recorded video and voice messages, and not live video calls.

Google announced the feature via a tweet.

Captions are available to both Android and iOS users across the globe.

The feature sends the audio of the content to Google for transcription and then shows the captions returned from the server. Google also claims that it won’t be storing any content.

This feature is different from the Live Captions feature we saw on select Pixel devices. On Pixel phones, Google uses real-time transcription for calls. Captions on Duo is different and will be available on both Android and iOS devices.
