Asus Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 7 Pro with 90Hz OLED display, triple rotating camera announced

Zenfone 7 series

Last year, Asus launched Asus Zenfone 6 (Asus 6Z) with a flip camera. Now the company has announced successors Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro with an additional camera in the flip module. Both the devices still have rotating cameras, OLED displays, and 5000 mAh batteries.

Asus claims that they have improved the flip module. It can now survive 200,000 flips rather than the 100,000 flips in Zenfone 6. If you flip the camera 100 times a day, it will still survive for 5 years. Flipping is also faster than in the previous model.

The company has upgraded displays to high-refresh-rate 90Hz OLED panel from 60Hz LCD screens from last year. Both the phones have 6.67 inches 1080p OLED displays with a 90Hz refresh rate. Asus claims a peak brightness of 1,000 nits and DC dimming for flicker-free low-brightness operation. There’s also Gorilla Glass 6 protection. Both the phones feature a series 6000 aluminum frame and glass back has Gorilla Glass 3. Even if there’s OLED display, Asus has included a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Zenfone 7 packs Snapdragon 865 while Zenfone 7 Pro packs Snapdragon 865 Plus. 7 Pro comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The regular Zenfone 7 comes with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM with 128GB storage. Storage is also expandable up to 2TB. Both the phones support Sub-6GHz 5G.

The camera setup includes a 64MP Sony IMX686 primary camera along with a 12MP ultra wide-angle IMX363 camera and 8 megapixels telephoto camera for 3X zoom. The phone can record 4K videos at 40 fps from the primary camera and 120 fps slow motion at 4K. There are also HDR video mode and improved night mode. It can also record 4K videos from the ultrawide-angle camera. Now assume that you can use the same powerful setup for selfies.

There is a stereo speaker system but the phone drops headphone jack. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.1, GPS/ A-GPS/ NavIC, NFC, and USB Type-C port

There’s a massive 5000 mAh battery with 30W fast charging. There’s still no wireless charging but Asus has an explanation for this. They wanted to pack a larger battery rather than allocating space for wireless charging hardware.

Asus Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro will be released globally on September 1. The company has announced the pricing for the Taiwan market. Zenfone 7 starts at TWD 21,990 (roughly Rs. 55,700) for base model with 6GB RAM and the 8GB RAM model costs TWD 23,990 (roughly Rs. 60,100). Asus Zenfone 7 Pro is priced at TWD 27,990.

I personally liked the Asus 6Z and I am really curious to try this new one.
