Amazon has launched an online pharmacy in India starting today. For now, the service is only available in Bengaluru and should be available in other cities soon.

Amazon will offer both over-the-counter and prescription-based drugs along with basic health devices.

Recently online drug sellers and e-pharmacies such as Medlife, Netmeds, PharmEasy, and 1mg saw growth in sales during the lockdown. So, Amazon has also jumped in the segment to get an early lead. Amazon claims that they comply with all laws.

Many trader groups are protesting against e-pharmacies because they are not just affecting sales of local medical stores but it may also lead to the sale of medicines without proper verification. Now when giants like Amazon and big funded e-pharmacies are in the action, customers are getting discount and delivery at home.

Amazon is really aggressive in India because of heating competition from Walmart-owned Flipkart, Reliance-owned JioMart, and other local players. The company also decided to open 10 new warehouses in India last month. It also began alcohol delivery in West Bengal and will soon start offering auto insurance.
