Asus has now launched its next-gen gaming phone ROG Phone 3 with several improvements over the predecessor boost your gaming performance. I have yet to test this phone properly but got some initial impressions to share after using this phone for a few hours. Read ROG Phone 3 Impressions to know more about the phone.

ROG Phone 3 has the same form factor that was seen in ROG Phone 2 but there are several improvements for improved heating. The phone has a large 6.59-inch display panel and dual speakers located at the top and bottom side of the display. The selfie camera is located on the top right side of the display. It also features an under-display fingerprint sensor that is fast and works well.

Volume rockers and the power button are on the right side. Even if the phone feels long, there is no issue in reaching volume or power buttons while using the phone. It also has AirTrigger 3 Ultrasonic touch buttons on the same some at the top and bottom side. On the left side, it has a SIM slot and an additional port for charging or adding a headphone. On the base side, it has another USB Type-C port for charging. No, there’s no headphone jack. That’s the reason you get a Type-C to headphone jack adapter.

At the back, it has the triple camera setup and dual-LED flash at the top portion and the glowing RGB logo at the center. The Aerodynamic system is also visible on the back that has big grills and dissipates the heat through a discrete hole. Asus also claims that it has improved the Copper 3D vapor-chamber design to improve the cooing the heatsink is 6 times larger than the one used in ROG Phone 2.

The front panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 6 while the back has Gorilla Glass 3. It is 9.85mm thick and carries 240 grams of weight. It also packs a large 6000 mAh battery but doesn’t feel bulky.

The phone features a 6.59-inch AMOLED panel with 10-bit HDR10+ support. The panel is really bright and offers accurate colors. So, not just gaming, you will also love watching video and movies on this phone. For gamers, the panel offers 144Hz refresh rate and 1 ms response time. The touch latency is also now down to 25ms with a 270Hz touch sampling rate. So, you will have clearer, sharper, smoother and responsive experience. That means improved gaming performance. It is also possible to choose between 144Hz, 120Hz, 90Hz, 60Hz or Auto refresh rate.

The phone runs on Android 10 out of the box with ROG UI. The most interesting part of the UI is the Armoury Crate app. This app lets you customize your gaming experience the way you like. You can create different profiles for different games and set things like touch sensitivity, slide sensitively, refresh rate, CPU or GPU performance, AirTriggers, and more.

The phone packs Snapdragon 865 Plus Mobile Platform to offer fastest possible performance. Snapdragon 865 Plus is the best smartphone processor Soc available in the market. With overclocked Adreno 650 GPU, the phone is capable of offering best mobile gaming experience. The phone also offers up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and fastest smartphone storage UFS3.1. All theses make ROG Phone 3 technically the fastest Android phone for now.

Didn’t get much time to test the phone properly, but I played a few games just to have initial impressions. Games are really smooth.

The Ultrasonic Buttons are also getting an upgrade and the company calls them AirTrigger 3. Not just tapping, it now supports sliding and swiping. You can also now divide each button into two partitions for tapping to get 4 additional shoulder triggers. The phone also features a single shake to control on-screen input. For example, shake to reload. How cool it will be. Combining it with AirTrigger, you get 5 additional actions. Once you are comfortable with AirTrigger, you will surely see an improvement in your gaming performance.

It features a triple camera setup on the back that includes 64 megapixels primary camera with Sony IMX686 sensor, f/1.8 aperture, along with 13 megapixels 125-degree Ultra-wide angle camera and a 5 megapixels macro camera. The camera app has several features and you now have Pro mode for both photos and videos. It has

The rear camera can record up to 4K videos and can also record 4K HDR Videos. You have the ability to record slow-motion 4K videos.

ROG Phone 3 also has a 24-megapixel selfie camera that also captures good photos in most of the conditions.

As I didn’t get much time to test the phone, I will be talking about the camera performance in a separate article later. Here, I am putting a few camera samples to give you an idea.

Audio is also an important part of gaming, so the company has also improved speakers. It features dual front-facing speakers. The speakers promise more power and less distortion. Certainly, the speakers performance feel good.

In terms of connectivity, it supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1. GPS, NavIC, and USB Type-C. The phone packs 6000 mAh large battery in this compact body. So, you have a longer battery life to enjoy your gaming sessions. The company has included a 30W charger in the box.

Like previous ROG phones, there will be accessories including ROG Kunai 3 Gamepad, ROG Gaming Clip, ROG Lighting Armor Case 3, ROG TwinView Dock 3, Professional Dock and Mobile Desktop Dock. These are optional accessories you need to buy separately if you want to use them.

ROG Phone 3 aims to deliver the best possible gaming experience on a smartphone. It comes with a really good display, powerful specs, a good camera, and a powerful battery. AirTrigger, smoother display, and powerful specs make it the best gaming phone available. I have yet to check this phone properly, so you need to wait for the full review to know everything about the phone. Initial impressions are really good and I am already super excited to play some amazing mobile games on this phone.
