TikTok’s Parent ByteDance is shutting down Vigo Video in India

Vigo

Tiktok’s parent company, ByteDance has announced that it will shut down Vigo Video and Vigo Lite short video apps in India by October-end.

The exact reason to shut down the app and its operations remains unclear. I think that the company now just wants to focus on TikTok. Vigo is similar to TikTok, so it won’t make much sense to have two similar apps when one is already seeing massive success.

Vigo users can easily migrate to TikTok where they have more creators to watch and larger viewer base. Users can also upload their personal data and permanently delete their accounts.

Vigo video app is also similar to TikTok and allows users to create and watch short videos. Vigo Lite is a lighter version of the Vigo Video app for entry-level smartphones. Vigo Video has over 10 crore installs while Vigo Lite has over 5 crore installs.

The app has already been shut down in Brazil and West Asia. Now after the company has decided to shut it down in India, it seems Bytedance doesn’t want to manage this app anymore.
