Don’t set this image as your Android phone’s wallpaper

This Wallpaper May Brick Your Android Phone

There have several instances where text messages crashed Android phones, but this time Android phones are suffering from a strange bug. A few users found that am innocuous landscape photo is bricking their phones when the photo is used as a wallpaper.

On Affected phones, the phone gets stuck in a loop that turns on the lock screen on and off. Even if you reboot the phone, the condition remains the same. To get out of this, you will have to boot the phone in safe mode and delete the phone.

Dylan Roussel from 9to5 discovered the reason why this photo is creating the issue on Android phones. This photo uses the RGB color space instead of Android’s preferred sRGB. When an incompatible phone tries to display the photo, it causes problems.

This wallpaper doesn’t crash on phones running Android 10 because this newer OS automatically converts incompatible image color spaces to sRGB. But this isn’t the case with devices running Android and below.

I recommend you not to try this on your phone even just for an experience. You may sendup bricking your phone and you may lose your data in the worst case.

Google has not commented on the matter but Samsung has already confirmed to fix this glitch with an upcoming firmware release.

There could be more similar images causing the same bug. So, I will recommend not to try images from unknown sources and be careful while choosing wallpapers.
