Instagram has finally started age verification to allow only 13+ users

Instagram has finally started being responsible and will now ask kids to stay away from the platform. Instagram will now ask each new user to input their birth date and won’t allow registration if a user is younger than 13 years of age.

Instagram has made it clear that the birthday will not be visible to other users on Instagram even if you enter it on the verification page. It will be saved as private account information.

The company has also confirmed that it will add the date of birth that’s on your Facebook profile if you connect your Facebook account to Instagram. Editing your birth date on Facebook will automatically change it on Instagram.

On the other hand, Facebook, Snapchat and TikTok ask for birthdate to sign up. TikTok has even made a separate section of its app where kids can watch videos but they cannot post comments.

Instagram is also giving you more control over who can send you direct messages on Instagram. You can now allow only people you follow to message and add you in group threads. If you enable this setting, you won’t be disturbed by people who you do not follow.
