Xiaomi launches Mi Reader to take on Amazon’s Kindle

Xiaomi has launched an ebook reader called Mi Reader in China. This device looks like Amazon’s Kindle and features an HD e-ink display.

Mi Reader features a 6-inch HD e-ink display with 212ppi pixel density. It supports 24 brightness presets and offers uniform brightness coverage of up to 90 percent. The display panel has an anti-glare technology to read even in sunlight.

It packs 1.8GHz Allwinner B300 quad-core processor with 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. The device supports a wide range of file formats including TXT, EPUD, PDF, DOC, XLS, PPT and the whole suite of WPS and Microsoft Office content. It also lets you import your library from the cloud and seamlessly switch between reading on their phone to the Mi Reader.

Mi Reader packs 1,800 mAh battery that can last several weeks on a single charge. It has a USB-C port for charging. The device measures 159.2 x 116 x 8.3mm and weighs 178 grams. It comes with dual-tone design with thick white bezels and a dark rear panel.

Mi Reader will be available for crowdfunding in the Chinese market starting November 20. If you prebook, it will cost you 579 Yuan. After it goes on sale, The price will be 599 Yuan. For now, we just know that shipments will start in December but, we do not know the exact date when it will go on sale.
