MediaTek announces Dimensity 1000 Soc with built-in 5G model
MediaTek just announced its latest flagship SoC Dimensity 1000 with a built-in 5G modem. This is also Mediatek’s first chip built using 7nm process technology.
Dimensity 1000 uses four Cortex-A77 cores clocked at 2.6GHz and four power-efficient ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. There’s also ARM Mali-G77 GPU. It also comes with MediaTek AI Processing Unit that claims to offer more than double the performance of the previous generation APU. This Soc supports up to 16GB and UFS storage.
On Antutu benchmarking tool, it scored 511,363 that is higher than Snapdragon 855+ and Apple’s A13 Bionic. But Benchmark scores are just numbers and it doesn’t equate to real-world performance.
This Soc supports 5G two carrier aggregation (2CC CA) with 4.7Gbps downlink and 2.5Gbps uplink speeds. It can support stand-alone and non-stand alone (SA/NSA) sub-6GHz networks. It also has multi-mode support for every cellular connectivity generation from 2G to 5G.
Dimensity 1000 supports Full HD+ displays up to 120Hz and 2K+ up to 90Hz. It is also the first mobile chip to support Google AV1 format up to 4K resolution at 60fps.
It comes with 5-core ISP that supports 80 megapixels cameras sensors at 24 frames per second and multi-camera setup. It also adds the world’s first multi-frame video HDR capability and records 4K video by capturing every three frames at different exposures for an extended dynamic range.
This is also the world’s first Soc to come with latest WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1+ standards. Mediatek also claims that the positioning engine used in this chip is Mediatek’s most accurate ever.
We still don’t know when this chip will debut and what device to feature it first. MediaTek has confirmed that the first phone with Dimensity 1000 should be available in Q1 2020.
