Ola introduces self-driving car service “Ola Drive”

Ola has announced the launch of its self-drive car service called “Ola Drive” in India. For now, the service is available in Bengaluru but soon it will also be launched in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Hyderabad.

Ola Drive cars will come with Ola Play’. That means all cars you hire through Ola Drive will come with a 7-inch touchscreen with GPS, media playback, and Bluetooth connectivity. Customers will also get a 24/7 helpline, the emergency button for immediate call and real-time tracking along with road-side assistance.

Upon selecting Ola Drive, you can choose the time of self-pickup, select the vehicle and see the restive prices. The standard distance option ranges from 8 km to 60 km with a charge of Rs. 8 for every additional Km. Any change in distance and time will be adjusted at the time of bill calculation.

Users can book the car of their users by paying a security deposit starting at Rs 2000, There will be a range of cars including hatchbacks, SUVs, sedans and luxury cars.

“In the first phase of its roll-out, Ola Drive will be offered as a short-term self-drive car-sharing service as we look to introduce long-term subscription, corporate leasing, and more options in the times to come,” said Arun Srinivas, chief sales and marketing officer, at Ola.

This will surely make rival ZoomCar and Revv uncomfortable because they already have their established self car driving services. Ola is big and has a large amount of money to invest. Ola has plans to invest $200 million to add 20,000 cars to Ola Drive by 2020 that will be 50 percent more than the fleet size of the entire industry.
