Essential teases a new smartphone that looks more like a TV remote
Essential, the company by Andy Rubin, was the first one to bring a tiny display notch for selfie camera in a smartphone. Now the company is ready to give another new Android phone design. The company tweeted a few photos of its upcoming smartphone that is tall and narrow.
The phone features a very tall aspect ratio. It has a punch-hole display with the front camera located on a hole at the top left corner of the screen. The back has a single rear camera located on a large circular module. It certainly feels like a TV remote with touch controls.
Andy Rubin also tweeted a short video and hands-on images showing the reflective glass back panel, four colors including blue, gold, magenta and cyan green. Rubin mentioned the use of GEM Colorshift material on the back. There’s also the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Rubin mentioned that the company is working on a new UI that is optimised for this new kind of form factor. While he didn’t reveal much, we can see the card-like interface.
Back in September last year, Essential revealed that the company is working on a AI-powered phone that will do a lot of work for users to make the lifer easier. Now this phone seems to be unique in terms of size.
We have no idea when the company will launch the phone. We just know that the company will keep teasing details until the launch.
