At IFA 2019, Samsung has announced its new chipset Exynos 980 with integrated 5G model. So, there is no need to add a separate modem to get the next-generation network support.

It means all future flagship Samsung phones and tablets will get seamless 5G connectivity. There’s I no need for extra modem chip, so it will save space and will be more power-efficient. It is capable of offering up to 2.55Gbps sub-6GHz 5G speeds

Exynos 980 is built on an 8nm process. It has two high-performance Cortex-A77 CPU cores and six efficient Cortex-A55 cores. This octa-core processor is said to offer better performance than the predecessor. The company has also focused on improving onboard neural processing unit for AI tasks. It also packs Mali G76 GPU.

It also supports cameras up to 108 megapixels, and up to five individual sensors. It also supports encoding and decoding of 4K UHD video at 120 fps and HDR10+

Samsung launches its flagship phones in India with Exynos chipsets, so, India will be getting Samsung’s 5G phones running on Exynos 980 even if the country has yet to get the 5G connectivity.

Samsung launched 5G variant of Galaxy S10 but with a separate 5G modem. We can see Exynos 980 in Samsung Galaxy S11.

Qualcomm has yet to announce a chipset with built-in 5G modem, but it has promised to bring one soon.
