Huawei announces EROFS update for a few of its popular smartphones

Huawei announced that its new file system EROFS (Extendable Read-Only File System) will soon be available to a few of its existing smartphones.

EROFS filesystem was announced with Huawei P30 Pro. It promises a 20% improvement in random read speed and more than 2GB of system storage savings. It will boost app launch and ensures a higher response rate when it comes to reading files such as documents, music or videos. So, smartphones getting EROFS update will become a bit faster.

Huawei P30 Lite, Huawei P20 Lite, Huawei Nova3i, and Huawei Y9 are the phones getting EROFS update.

Huawei also announced the roll-out of EMUI 9.1 for its 8 most popular smartphones in India. EMUI 9.1 brings improved performance, GPU Turbo 3.0 and more. This is the update that will bring EROFS on eligible smartphones

GPU Turbo 3.0 reduces SoC power consumption by 10% and optimizes system performance for gaming.

EMUI 9.1 also brings Dual-View Video tat uses multiple cameras at once to capture videos. This is interesting as you can shoot two different perspectives on one single screen.

It also brings AR Measure App that can accurately measure length, total area and volume with the HUAWEI TOF Camera. It can also measure the height of a person if you scan from toe-to-head.

The update will be available in three phases. Huawei P20 Lite will get it in the first phase. Huawei Nova 3i, Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Huawei Nova 3 will get in second phase starring July 24. Huawei P30 Lite and Huawei P20 Pro will get EMUI 9.1 in the last phase starting August 7.
