Torrenting in 2019 Guide

Torrent Guide

There was a time when torrenting was safe and the web was full of great trackers like Kickass. But those days are long gone. Many of our favourite sites from decades past have either died or gone private. Thankfully, more and more Kickass alternatives keep popping up, saving the day for fans of that particular tracker. And there are others that still function.

Torrenting has also become an increasingly risky business over the last few years. Copyright holders have pushed governments and ISPs into closely monitoring torrent activity and imposing punishments. They can trace the IP address of users who download copyright-protected data and then prosecute such users with copyright infringement claims.

For this reason, it is more essential than ever before to use torrents safely. You can follow these best practices to mask your identity, connection and data when using torrents. You will also find links to reliable, working torrent sites in the guide below.

How to safely use torrents

Apart from the risk from copyright holders, torrents can also carry malicious software and viruses. For this reason, safety should be a major concern when you are using torrents.

Here are some tools and best practices you can follow to ensure safe torrenting in 2019:

Download reputable torrents

There are virtually endless torrent sites and files out there. So which ones can you trust?

To determine whether a torrent site is trustable, look up its reviews online. You can also consult the list below to find some of the best torrent sites still working in 2019.

When it comes to torrent files, it’s easier to determine whether or not you can trust them.

Simply look at the number of seeders and leechers on that file. The larger this number is, the greater is the probability that the file can be trusted. You can also check out the comments section to get the low-down on the file and the user feedback on it.

Use legal torrent sites

If you want to absolutely stay on the safe side, you can simply stick with legal torrent sites. These sites offer downloadable content that is not copyright-protected. So you still get access to a boatload of great content without running into any copyright controversies.

By sticking with legal torrent sites, you are able to get rid of most of the risks associated with torrenting. The great thing about legal torrents is that you can also disseminate and share them with others without any risks.

Encrypt your torrents

Torrents are typically downloaded using torrent clients. Most reputable torrent clients offer users with the option of encrypting their torrent traffic. You can also set up a proxy server from within the client to anonymize your torrent activity.

Use a VPN

Using a VPN is by far the most reliable and sure way of anonymizing your traffic and minimizing the risks associated with torrenting.

A VPN masks your torrent activity as well as your IP address. As a result, your ISP can not detect whether you are using torrents. And law enforcement agencies can’t trace torrent downloads back to your IP address.

Quality VPNs cost you a few dollars per month but they are worth every penny. Using a VPN is the most fool-proof method of anonymizing your torrent activity.

Torrent sites still working in 2019

1. The Pirate Bay (TPB)

Despite repeated shutdowns, government action, and arrests, TPB continues to live on. And it remains one of the most popular torrent sites on the planet.

TPB offers one of the largest resources of torrent files. It is blocked by many ISPs around the globe. If your ISP is one of these, you can easily bypass the block by using a VPN.

2. YTS

YTS is a torrent site that hosts the torrents uploaded by the famous YIFY. YIFY’s movie torrents are known for high video quality with a small file size. YTS offers additional details such as Rotten Tomatoes Audience rating and IMDB score alongside the movie details. The video quality of the torrent files is excellent as are the download speeds.

3. EZTV

If you are looking for torrents about TV shows and series, EZTV is the go-to torrent site. It has been around for more than a decade and has a rich library of torrents on a huge range of TV series. The interface is a little old-school but it is also simple and easy to navigate.

4. 1337x

1337x is similar to TPB in that it offers access to a huge body of torrents. You can easily search the torrents by using the standard categories at the bottom of the site. The site offers good download speeds and is a reputable place to dig for the torrents you are looking for.

Torrent sites that no longer work

  1. Isohunt

Isohunt was one of the biggest casualties of the torrenting world. The site was once among the most popular torrent sites. It has since been taken down, although some secondary mirrors of the site still exist.

2. KickAss Torrents

KickAss Torrents was the most popular directory for magnet links and torrent files by early 2016. The site had more than 1 million visitors per day. Its domain was seized by the U.S. government in 2016 and the website was subsequently shut down.

The great news is that a number of high-quality KickAss alternatives still exist. You can check out some of these KickAss Torrents alternatives on our website.

3. ExtraTorrent

ExtraTorrent had been functional since 2006. The site was attracting millions of daily users back in 2017. It was shut down soon afterwards and, like KickAss Torrents, it is gone for good.
