Flipboard Database Hacked And Critical Information Accessed

Popular news aggregator platform Flipboard has confirmed that its database had been hacked and insensitive information including user credentials were accessed. The company said that its database was downloaded several times over a nine-month period ending on April 22.

Flipboard said that hacked accused name, username, email address and cryptographically protected password. The company used salted hashing for storing the password, so it will really hard to crack the encryption to know the actual password.

Flipbord has reset all users’ passwords, even though the passwords were cryptographically protected. Next time when you try logging in, it will ask you to create a new password before you could use your Flipboard account.

If you connected Flipboard to any social media account, digital tokens used to connect accounts may also have been compromised. As a precaution, the company has replaced or deleted these tokens.

If you use the same email and password combination on another service or app, you should change there as well. It is also not recommended to use an email and password combination on different apps.
