Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 665 Mobile Platform

Today at Qualcomm’s AI Day conference in San Francisco, Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 665 mobile platform for mid-range smartphones. Snapdragon 665 is the update to Snapdragon 660 launched back in 2017.

Not much changed in comparison to Snapdragon 660. There is 4x Kryo 260’s based on Cortex A73’s plus 4x Cortex A53 based cores. Clockspeed has been taken down to 2GHz and small cores are still clocked at 1.8GHz.

Snapdragon 665 comes with Adreno 610 GPU that also brings support for Vulkan 1.1.

It supports 3rd generation Qualcomm AI engine that claims to offer 2x faster AI on-device performance as compared to Snapdragon 660. It also comes with Hexagon 686 DSP along with HVX to enable advanced AI mobile experience.

The Snapdragon 665 features new Spectra 165 ISP along with several AI features like AI scene detection. It also supports Hybrid Autofocus, Optical zoom, Zero shutter lag, Auto HDR and more.

It also comes with X12 LTE modem that supports speed of up to 600Mbps.

Qualcomm has confirmed that the platform will be made available in mid-2019. So, we can expect smartphones powered by Snapdragon 665 by the end of the year.
