Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 8cx 5G Computing Platform at MWC for PCs. This enables PC manufacturers to bring next-gen wireless connectivity to their PCs to make it Always Connected.

The first commercial 5G platform for PCs is based on 7nm Snapdragon 8cx chip that was announced back in December. This chip is coupled with new X55 5G modem that will also be used in upcoming 5G smartphones.

This platform promises smartphone like always-on connectivity on PCs and good battery life. In this way, it will change the way people use PCs on the go. Consumers will get multi-gigabit connectivity, good performance and multi-day battery life on modern PCs.

Qualcomm has already shipped this new Snapdragon 8cx 5G units to PC makers including Lenovo. So, we can expect the firs device using this 5G PC platform by the end of this year.

Lenovo has always been a key partner for Qualcomm to bring its hardware in the latest laptops. It already launched Lenovo Yoga 630 with Snapdragon 850 chip for notebooks running Windows. This is the reason the world is looking at Lenovo again to bring a laptop using this modern platform.

Always on connectivity has always been a requirement for business users ad Lenovo’s Thinkpad series is the primary laptop we see with business users. So, we can also expect upcoming Thinkpad laptops to get a variant using the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx 4G platform.
